The dangerous part is, the small amounts accumulate which lead to massive impacts on your health.

I remember caring for a high achieving crossfit athlete a couple years ago. His name was James and he was at the top of his game. He had sponsors, checks coming in daily from his wins and a lot of international attention.  From the outside he was doing everything perfectly.  One day, James came in to me and told me he had hit a plateau that he just couldn’t get past.  Thinking it was his inability to increase the weight he was lifting, I sympathized. To which he then let me in on a secret he’d been keeping for a while.  James had not been able to sleep for the last 2 months.  If any of you know how crucial sleep is then you understand this can be a career ender for most high performing athletes.

I did two simple steps with James;

  1. We addressed his toxicity levels with a heavy metals test to find out what metals accumulating within his body.

1. Toxic Personal Care Products

Did you know that putting toxic personal care products on your skin is actually more deadly than swallowing them. Why?

Because research tells us that when carcinogens (cancer causing agents) are placed on the skin, they slowly begin to absorb and enter the bloodstream. From here they are quickly distributed throughout your body.  Your lymphatic system then jumps to action to quickly deal with the toxins entering your body and immediately begins to bind them up.  This in can lead to the beginning stages of lymphatic cancer, one of the top deadliest cancers in our world today.

So what are some of the main personal care product ingredients that we should look out for?

  1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is practically in all personal care products. It makes things bubbly and gives the product a nice smooth feel when you put it on.
  2. Propylene Glycol is basically anti-freeze. Yes, you’re actually rubbing a type of anti-freeze on your skin if your products contain this substance.
  3. DEA is another deadly ingredient that is linked with liver and kidney cancer.

I can’t stress this enough. When looking at ingredient lists make sure you can actually read it, if it’s too hard to pronounce, most likely it’s not good for you or your skin for that matter. Go for organic, natural products where possible and check your ingredients lists!

2. Plastics

Plastics are bad news.  Reason being is that plastics are Xenoestrogens, a hard word to pronounce which goes back to my tip above. Xenoestrogens mimic certain hormones in your body like estrogen, and these can be cancer causing.

Quick Rules Of Thumb To Avoid Xenoestrogens:

Avoid plastic water bottles. If you find that you must drink out of them look at the number on the bottom.  Some call this the recycling number. It’s the number in the triangle. Avoid 3, 6, and 7.  Drink from 1,2,4 and 5.  A great mnemonic that I use is 3,6,7 straight to heaven (meaning it kills you).  1,2,4,5 you’re alive!  I prefer 1 when it comes to drinking from any container.

Never heat anything thing in plastic containers.  I personally try and never store food in plastic containers, I have a hard time trusting BPA free containers as well, I know, it’s a tick that I have but when I look at the track record for “safe” products, it’s clear to see that we don’t always know if something is 100% safe. Pesticides, herbicides, steroids and excitotoxins are increasingly being found in the food you are eating and it’s getting harder and harder to avoid them. The 2 Best Ways To Protect Yourself and Your Family:  

Buy Organic. I understand it gets pricier. If it’s not in your budget to buy organic then wash all your fruits and vegetable thoroughly.  This is the list I use to gage how well I’m going to scrub my produce (http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/). I recommend using a vinegar wash if you find there is a waxy film on your produce (½ cup vinegar to 3 cups water). This film binds with toxins and makes it a lot harder to wash it away with just water.

Buy Grass-Fed Meat. It takes acres of sprayed grain to provide one pound of meat. That means conventional meat is highly concentrated with toxins. If you do any one thing to stay away from toxins, buy high quality meat.  I go out of my way to know my farmer and I even tour the farm I’m getting the meat from in order to insure I’m consuming the highest quality protein and fat. This doesn’t have to be expensive if you get it from your local farmer.

4. Heavy Metals

Heavy metal toxicity is something I see in far too many of the entrepreneurs and executives I work with on a daily basis.
